This was a captivating story set in Korea and Japan across the 1900s, detailing the lives of many different family members. I knew literally nothing about Japan's occupation of Korea and the subsequent difficult experiences of Koreans living in Japan so it was interesting to learn more about this whilst still being a page-turner.
