The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson
5.0
dark emotional medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: Character
Strong character development: Complicated
Loveable characters: Yes
Diverse cast of characters: No
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

Just as haunting (pardon the pun) as everyone says it is. I adored it.

Theo and Eleanor, together, are fascinating. The push-pull they have, the way they accuse each other of needing to be the center of attention, the closeness that Eleanor so desperately wants but Theo won't allow—all of this builds and builds until you almost can't see where they started, the way they held each other. As Hill House seeps into them both, they are both more and less themselves.
