Cinderella Is Dead by Kalynn Bayron

5.0

WOW. This book is an absolute firecracker. I will not be breaking this review up into categories as I typically do because I don't have enough different things to say.

I have nothing bad to say about this book. Literally nothing. The character development was great. The plot and pacing were perfect, and I was invested in both the characters and the plot for every single page. The world-building was utterly mind-blowing. Lille feels real to me, truly.

This book made me feel every emotion possible: happiness, anxiety, excitement, heartbreak, pride, and more. The characters, world, and plot are dimensional and realistic in a way that is slightly terrifying, given the subject matter of this book. It made me question many of the things I hold to be true, even as a POC and an activist.

I truly believe everyone needs to read this book, men and white people especially, but everyone. Black and queer people can benefit from it because they will get to see themselves be the hero of the story. White people and men will benefit because it will broaden their understandings of the world and teach them hard truths. Women will benefit because it will show them a diversity of experiences of womanhood. This is a book for everyone.
