Marissa Meyer does it again! I'm super impressed that Scarlet was almost as good as [b:Cinder|11235712|Cinder (The Lunar Chronicles, #1)|Marissa Meyer|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1388186881s/11235712.jpg|15545385]. The second novel tends to fall flat for a lot of writers!
The introduction of Wolf and Scarlet was intriguing, although I wasn't as instantly enamored as I was with Cinder and Kai. I was unsure where Meyer was heading with adding these characters while managing Cinder and her story at the same time, so I was a little tentative at the beginning, but I think Meyer was able to pull it off.
Scarlet is a fun and feisty character, and I loved her affection for her family and grandmother. The setting was much different for her story than in [b:Cinder|11235712|Cinder (The Lunar Chronicles, #1)|Marissa Meyer|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1388186881s/11235712.jpg|15545385]. Meyer has wonderful skills in worldbuilding and creating a true atmospheric feel to her locations.
The romance between Scarlet and Wolf was expected, but it was still a fun addition and I really liked their chemistry together. On the other side, I was so happy that Thorne was added as Cinder's sidekick. He made me laugh out loud multiple times and provided a wonderful light-hearted comedy aspect to the novel, which at times was a little bit heavier.
I think my reason for giving this novel 4 stars versus the 5 that I gave [b:Cinder|11235712|Cinder (The Lunar Chronicles, #1)|Marissa Meyer|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1388186881s/11235712.jpg|15545385] is because some of the plotlines turned a little predictable and the juggle of characters was a little messy. I was also unsure of the inclusion of the Wolves into the plot as a whole, they seemed a little forced in order to continue the retelling theme.
Still, I loved this sequel and am so excited for the next books!
