Dryland

picked this up on a complete whim and did not expect to love it as much as i did! i really enjoyed the stream of consciousness; it felt just like someone's life. i also loved how bittersweet it was, the connections forged and broken almost simultaneously, though i wish more of the plotlines were tied up (but that might have ruined the feeling of it being a moment in julie's life). it really tugged at something in me-- maybe it was the queerness never fully realized or expressed, maybe it was julie's mild ambivalence towards her relationship with alexis, maybe it was her friendship with ben where he recognized everything in her. yeah. really enjoyed this, despite the fugly cover!
