Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 1: Legacy by Dan Abnett, Andy Lanning

4.0

I really enjoyed these first six issues of Guardians of the Galaxy. It was a fun, action-packed romp with a variety of characters. If reminded me of slightly cheesy sci-fi TV from the 90s that I found enjoyable, especially "Farscape,"and Saturday morning cartoons.

The setting and characters are fertile ground for development. The characters are different enough for everyone to have a favorite. It'll be interesting to see the characters and the interpersonal dynamics develop. The vast space opera- type setting also opens the possibility of exploring themes frequently seen in sci-fi such as racism, politics, religion, etc.

For the most part, I liked the art. It's well-drawn and detailed with bright colors and good facial expressions. However, I often felt that the art became too "busy," especially during the action scenes, and the lettering/script wasn't as intuitive to follow as I think that it could've been.
