Okay, I know I’m in the minority here, but I LOVED this book, and I loved it way more than Daisy Jones & the Six.

Maybe my review shouldn’t be about the comparison, but the two stories are written in the same interview style and essentially follow similar stories of how an infamous fictional band gets their start and then falls apart, so it’s very easy to draw parallels.

However, one of the biggest differences for me is that in Opal & Nev, you get a lot more substance.  I loved all the social, cultural, and political commentary that drove this story.

The late 60’s and early 70’s were an extremely important time period of cultural revolution.  We had the civil rights movement, the Vietnam War & anti war protesters, an ever growing generational gap with the coming of age of baby boomers with new ideas, political assassinations and more.   In the story of Opal & Nev, that’s not glossed over.

We get to experience this unprecedented time through them, all while meeting a cast of other incredible characters, and being brought back to the present where there are disturbing similarities.

Great story, great execution.
