Killing Lincoln: The Shocking Assassination that Changed America Forever
by Bill O'Reilly, Martin Dugard
Killing Lincoln by Bill O'Reilly and Martin Dugard is a very well written account of the events surrounding Lincoln's assassination. Written in novel form, O'Reilly and Dugard do a very good job of educating the reader on the details of the plot to kill Lincoln. It offers a brief background of the end of the Civil War, helping the reader to understand Booth's mentality. The book goes on to give a very detailed outline of the days just prior to, the day of, and the days after Lincoln's death up to the capture and execution of John Wilkes Booth and his co-conspirators. My only real complaint is that there are no footnotes and the Notes section at the end merely lists what books/resources that were used for research. I would prefer to have information cited properly, so that if I want to look up the reference as I am reading, it would be easy to find.
