Coming Home to Seashell Harbor by Miranda Liasson
4.0
Hadley loved him before he was famous, but that didn't keep them together. After her relationship with her Hollywood boyfriend shatters in public, it's time for her to reassess her life and find a path forward. Returning home to Seashell Harbor, Hadley starts to rebuild. Only problem is, she's jumped from a relationship blowout to competing with her high school ex for a piece of her grandmother's shop. This ex, Tony, wants to reimagine the shop as a new restaurant, but Hadley's determined to keep him from doing anything but that. Hadley wants her grandmother's shop to have a second chance, but it might be her that's getting a second chance after the dust settles.
I found this to be a lovely read about two people who didn't quite connect when they were young and immature, but receive the chance to learn more about each other now that they're adults and have hopes and dreams extending beyond what comes after homework. Hadley is sweet and loves her grandmother, though I'm not sure we could be friends since she's got a thing against sticky notes (okay, she has a good reason, but still!). Tony's been knocked down a peg by having his career ended by an injury, but I liked that he was ambitious enough to try for something new, and thoughtful enough to want to use family recipes as part of his new venture. Of course, neither person wants the other to succeed in their dreams for Hadley's grandmother's shop, so sparks fly over that and more! Coming Home to Seashell Harbor is a story about reinvention, reconciliation, and reconsideration. Recommended for readers who like to see heartbreak blossom into personal growth, disaster turn into opportunity, and old wounds turn over new leaves.
