The Heaven & Earth Grocery Store
by James McBride
Dnf at 100 pages (30%). The writing is beautiful, the characters are heartwarming, and I can picture this shanty little town. But nothing is happening. Someone else wrote that this has all of the components of a wonderful novel but no guiding force or editing and I agree. So many characters, so many side plots, and I wanted more from the grocery store and main characters. Nothing was happening and I found myself not wanting to pick it up. I'm terrible at DNF and waiting like 5 months to read this, so I'm pretty sad about it. But also proud of myself - life's too short to not read what you want! That said, I can see why people would like it. Just not for me.
