A banger of a vampire novel, I’m honestly shocked more people don’t talk about this. It’s brutal, it’s sharp, it’s funny, it’s well written, it’s everything I want from a vampire story and then some extras thrown in as a surprise. I think it could’ve used an extra 50-100 pages just to round out some of the lore/plot points, which is maybe the first time I’ve ever complained that there wasn’t ENOUGH of a book, but I’m looking forward to reading the rest of the books in the series that will hopefully expand on those things.
Graphic: Body horror, Confinement, Gore, Rape, Sexual assault, Sexual violence, Forced institutionalization, Blood, Kidnapping, Murder, Injury/Injury detail
Moderate: Torture, Schizophrenia/Psychosis
Rape features in this book several times in pretty heavy detail. I will say that it didn’t feel sexualised or titillating, it felt horrific and brutal. Proceed with caution tho.
