Senator Whit Montgomery and his wife Sloane have suffered devastating losses. Now that Sloane’s lupus is requiring a home health aide, they hire Athena to help in their home and with Sloane’s foundation. But as her health declines quickly, Sloane starts to feel paranoid that maybe something strange is happening around her. And maybe her new helper is to blame?

This book had some twists and turns that I didn’t expect, and I ultimately found myself curious as to where it would end up. But I also found the many POVs to be too much. It seems fewer POVs would’ve still been able to tell the story, but in an even more mysterious way. Some of the characters were particularly unlikeable, and I found I didn’t really feel strongly about any of them.

Thank you to NetGalley and Ballantine for an advanced copy of this book.
