Daughter of the Deep by Rick Riordan

3.0

cute read but the ending sort of falls apart under any scrutiny
1. the whole "we let them go because we're better than they are" is nice i guess but really glosses over the fact that these people literally murdered an entire campus full of children... like i understand the point was that they can't tell the authorities anything but surely there still have to be consequences to murder?
2. also glossed over is the fact that the people they released make up one (1) class of the evil school... like they said they know where the good guy secret base is so what stops them from getting back to their HQ and bringing along the real adults and alumni etc to destroy it and take over???
3. same with her brother like he orchestrated an attack against the school that left his own girlfriend and a BUNCH of children dead (which makes him a murderer) and multiple times indicated that he didn't actually care about ana or her crew (which really displays a stunning and dangerous lack of empathy) and yet the main consequence we see him facing is "oh the dolphin is mad at me :("? i guess if ana wants to forgive him that's her business but other people on the ship lost family and friends in that attack too, surely they should get some say in whether dev gets to just wander around their ship collecting valuable information and being a danger to their own lives?
