this book made me cry, laugh, just feel so many emotions. yamilet, despite the struggles she goes through in this book, is steadfast and such a compelling character, and so is many of the other characters in this book, even if you might dislike them. it's such a genuine exploration of sexuality and culture, and i literally couldn't put the book down.
cesars suicide attempt + his mom being the one to accept her kids' sexualities vs their fuckass dad brought tears to my eyes. that family dynamic is so flawed, but so relatable to mine and many people of color. it hit so close to home, but reading it felt so comforting. i'm so happy my friend rec'd it to me cause it now has a special place in my heart.
Graphic: Homophobia and Deportation
Moderate: Racism, Self harm, Forced institutionalization, Xenophobia, Blood, Suicide attempt, Outing, and Toxic friendship
Minor: Police brutality
