es2419 's review for:
Breathless
by Amy McCulloch
4.5! Each winter, I heavily lean into my obsession with mountaineering and more specifically, the stories of those that choose to brave the treachery of the seven summits. A lot of the reviews for this book indicated that the writing was too technical, which for me meant it was perfect. McCulloch actually climbing Manaslu herself added something that really would have lacked otherwise in that she was able to so perfectly paint the scenery and the daily mental and physical struggle that is inherent in any great climb. I love a good thriller so pairing that with one of my favorite settings was a real win and a great read to start off 2023!
