This book was fantastic. It had me intrigued from the get go, honestly. The author's prose and writing style, paired with the voice actor's characterisation and storytelling, it was easily a five star read. A 4.75 at the very least.
I love a book that is both plot heavy and character development based - I loved the way we got to know the characters in the town, so much so that it felt like we were integrating with the community. the interludal chapters did a great job at facilitating this. Titus as a character was very multi-dimensional, we got to hear inside his head whilst he processed the case and his personal life, showing us his internal and external struggles.
The plot, whilst very grizzly, progressed very well. I liked how there were chapters that were more description heavy - the world building and character focussed sections really balanced the pace and built tension, like you just knew something big was gonna come after.
It was very gritty and brutal, but gripping and intense and I couldn't stop listening to it. I'll definitely be checking out some of this author's other work.
