Shoe Dog
by Phil Knight
Phil Knight had been an unfamiliar name to me before I picked up this memoir. That, in itself, seems strange. Easily the best autobiography I had read in my life. Really Inspiring, Brutally honest and a Great Story.
In 1962, fresh out of business school, Phil Knight borrowed $50 from his father and created a company with a simple mission: import high-quality, low-cost athletic shoes from Japan. Selling the shoes from the trunk of his lime green Plymouth Valiant, Knight grossed $8,000 his first year. Today, Nike’s annual sales top $30 billion. In an age of startups, Nike is the ne plus ultra of all startups, and the swoosh has become a revolutionary, globe-spanning icon, one of the most ubiquitous and recognizable symbols in the world today.
No oversimplification or glorification. Just plain human experience which one needs to go through in order to achieve what the author has.
This man Phil Knight is a great storyteller. This book is like a novel. You won’t feel like a memoir. Best selling novelists would envy Phil Knight about his eloquent writing style. This book is an experience and a journey.I would expect the author to present his great ego, but he is a really modest personality.
I think everyone who finds joy in reading good books should have read of this incredible book. It compels us from within to choose the path that you want to. Choose the one thing that you really aspire and have passion for. This book gave me the courage to make YouTube videos, and take YouTube seriously.
My rating: 8/10
“Don’t tell people how to do things, tell them what to do and let them surprise you with their results.”
