The Shadowhunter's Codex by Joshua Lewis, Cassandra Clare
5.0
If you haven't read the first three books in The Mortal Instruments, you shouldn't read this one since it contains some spoilers.
Since I love both The Mortal Instruments and The Infernal Devices (and the Shadow World in general), I had to get this book as well and I love it so, so much.
Design: I absolutely love the design of the book. The dust jacket with Raziel on the cover looks really great and I also love the shiny look and the gold lettering. (I have the standard version, by the way, not the special edition.) I also love how the book looks under the dust jacket. It has a really nice shade of blue and the golden Mortal Cup on the cover. Inside the book, there's not only text but also drawings by Clary and notes by Clary, Jace and Simon which give the book a personal touch (you get the feeling that it really belonged to Clary and she passed it on to you). I especially loved the portrait drawings of the TMI characters at the end of the book.
Content: The Shadow World is my favourite book world and this book gives a detailed insight into the many different aspects of the Shadow World, such as Demons, Downworlders, weapons, etc. The book has a very clear structure so that you can also use it like an encyclopedia and look up certain parts. But reading it from the beginning to the end (like I did it) works just fine as well. :)
The content is very varied including sections about Shadowhunter history and also useful (if you ever meet a demon :p) stuff like "How to report a demon".
The most entertaining parts of the book are the notes by Clary, Jace and Simon which are really funny.
