The Trunk is a literary fiction novel translated from Korean. I think the translation causes the prose to be a bit clunky and I have a feeling there are certain cultural aspects that just didn't transfer well into English. I think the author has some interesting points on social commentary surrounding marriage and the challenges of being a young woman in Korea, but the story didn't feel very complete since a lot of the characters don't really have a proper resolution besides our main character. I can't tell if that's a symptom of the literary fiction genre or just this book. Interesting premise, questionable execution.
