The Kiss Curse by Erin Sterling

5.0

Content warnings: attempted murder, kidnapping, some profanity

Welcome back to the magical town of Graves Glen and the familiar faces of Vivi, Gwyn, Elaine, and Rhys. However, The Kiss Curse is Gwyn's time to shine while Vivi and Rhys jaunt off on their honeymoon and Elaine is off at a retreat. Gwyn, as the only member of the witch coven, holds down the fort as Halloween approaches. The only problem? Wells Penhallow, Rhys' older brother, has come to town and open up a shop across from Gwyn's Something Wicked. Amid some friendly, and not so friendly, banter, a new threat grows in Graves Glen. Will Gwyn and Wells be able to put aside their bickering and save Graves Glen once more?

While I loved Vivi in the first book, The Ex Hex, Gwyn was an underutilized side character and it was her time to be center stage. Gwyn is sassy, passionate, and down to Earth with quips and banter that make you smile and giggle. While the fighting, and eventual romance, with Wells was at times a bit much and/or predictable, it was still enjoyable.
Spoiler I do appreciate that the one detailed sexual scene was descriptive yet subdued and that part of their relationship was not the focus of the book, which sometimes can be the case with romance novels.

A much deserved round of applause to the hilarious Sir Purrcival, who much to my delight, was still a talking cat and got an expanded vocabulary! The real star side characters, however, was the trio of Baby Witches, consisting of Sam, Parker, and Cait. These three were a bit mischievous, smart, and just lovable. They gave the town of Graves Glen a much needed breathe of fresh air. And were a great balance to Gwyn.

The overall plot was fairly basic, mashed by the bickering and flirting between Gwyn and Wells. I didn't mind that much because the writing was witty and you just wanted to keep reading. Honestly, I liked Wells better than Rhys as the male lead. Wells had more breadth to his character. All in all, I loved the book. And I'm sad that I finished it in less than a day!
