Portrait of a Scotsman
by Evie Dunmore
The book centers around Harriet (Hattie) and Lucian, and they are a pair! Out of the three books, this one did the best job of showing the complexities of being a woman of means in the Victorian period who is involved in a scandal. It gives you a good glance at how one incident can have your whole life uprooted and changed and the consequence everlasting. The book sent me on an emotional journey that took me a while to warm up to the characters due to how their relationship began, I eventually did and enjoyed the story. This book had all the classics tropes associated with historical romances, but the ending was the best. I wasn’t a huge fan of the leading man, but I was down for his cause when it comes to business and the working people. Hattie was truly the star of this book and her journey it the new woman she becomes is fantastic to read.
Overall, I recommend the book to romance lovers. The second book in the series is still my favorite, but this one was great and kept up with the pace and theme of all the books.
I give this a 4.75
