I really like this book and its depiction of falcrest as a sort of fascist utopia that's held back in some ways by its over innovation in fascism and under-innovation in technologies for flourishing. I did find the motivations of Baru a bit hard to track and understand and I'm not sure I came out of the book with a correct or reasonable understanding of her motivation and what she sees in her future. Also I found it especially fun in the places where it maps modern economic understanding onto a pre-industrial society.
