Stone of Tears by Terry Goodkind
5.0
What can I say about this series? The only negative comment I have is, WOW, these books are long! But I can read one of Goodkind's novels in about half the time it takes me to read a Martin book. Terry keeps my interest up much better. And my personal opinion is that the Sword of Truth series is much better fantasy than the Song of Ice and Fire series. Anyway...Stone of Tears had so many emotional twists and turns in it. It was gut-wrenching at times. I believe Goodkind did an excellent job of developing the relationship between Richard and Sister Verna. And the revelation that the Palace of the Prophets was in "time spell," that was brilliant. It was kind of amusing to find out that Warren and Pasha were over a hundred years old, yet appeared to be about the same age as Richard. It hurt my heart when Pasha died, too...I rather liked her.
But I think my favorite bit was Richard's relationship with the gar, Gratch. One of the gut-wrenching scenes was when Richard had to send him away to save his life. "Grrratch luuug Raaaach aaarg." But then, of course, Richard realized what Kahlan had done for him.
I found the book to be totally enthralling, even though I think it could have been at least two books, and I stopped in the middle to read Good Omens with the reading group. I can't wait to get Blood of the Fold.
