Prison by Any Other Name: The Harmful Consequences of Popular Reforms by Maya Schenwar, Victoria Law
informative
medium-paced
4.0
This book is a horrifying look at the prison industrial complex to show how capitalism rules over reform and rehabilitation. It addresses every aspect of prison, whether it's physically behind bars or otherwise.
I really appreciated the emphasis on the importance of addressing trauma and how many mental illnesses arise because of prison.
I also learned a lot about the sex offender registry and Project Rose and other harmful "reforms" in regards to sex work.
I do wish that there was even more about other possibilities to these harmful reforms, I thought more of the book could have focused on that.
