masquedbunny 's review for:
A Tale of Two Cities
by Charles Dickens
I read this when I was in high school, and I don't think it resonated much with me at the time. I've been reading a lot of Dickens lately and enjoying it, so I thought, for the Massachusetts Center for the Book Reading Challenge, I would take the excuse to revisit this novel.
What strikes me is that there's were significant portions of the plot that we avoided discussing in class--I think we may have even been reading an abridged version of the novel, because there were moments that I think must have been seared into my memory if they had been present in the text. On the one hand, damn censorship; on the other, maybe it was appropriate, given that we were a group of 13- and 14-year-olds. Anyway, it was interesting and gratifying to read it with fresh eyes.
