This was a very dense historical fiction/mystery. This edition of the book also includes quite a bit of the author’s reflections on writing and such, which is what made me realize that he is a literary theorist/philosopher at his core. I feel like that explains a lot about my feelings of the book. The story was interesting, the writing was solid, just kind of a lot
Graphic: Sexism, Religious bigotry
Moderate: Homophobia
This book is accurate for the time period it takes place in, so sexism & homophobia are there in a way that makes sense, but can still be jarring.
