Brockton, Connecticut, is now a place of Dragons or Growns and fiefdoms based out of the high school campuses rather than a 21st-century town.

Nine months ago, there was a virus during school, and all the adults dropped to the ground and became monsters. As if that wasn't scary enough, those monsters snowballed into giant blobs of death. Thankfully, the teens of Jefferson and Moore High were able to survive the monster attacks and have been surviving inside their school for the time being.

Jefferson is run by the school's student council and refers to the monsters as Growns, as they are all adults. Moore is led by King Max and refers to the monsters as Dragons, as their fiefdom was inspired by an online role-playing game.

Kay, the student secretary at Jefferson, realizes Jefferson's people are starving and tries to convince the council to take the scavenging team (jocks) to Costco for supplies. For her efforts, Kay is tied up and dropped outside the campus. Thankfully, the Moore fiefdom finds
Kay takes her inside. Now, however, she realizes the corruption at the top of both parties' leadership. Can she save herself, fight corruption, and battle the monsters?

This book is a fun read. Its mixture of fantastical characters, gruesome battles, dystopian plots, and current aspects may interest many kinds of students. It is complicated, and the ending leads one to believe there might be a sequel.
