Taming Demons for Beginners by Annette Marie

4.0

Demons, mystics, and secrets - oh my! This book was really good. It was definitely a solid start to this series. I haven't read anything else by Annette Marie so I went into this completely blind on what to expect.

I was not expecting a fun romp into a world full of mystics and demon summoning. Zylas was instantly likeable while Robin took a little bit longer to grow on me. The magic system and world was really interesting, but I wanted to learn more about Robin's talent in runes and the mystical stuff and it was really only touched on. I LOVED the demon language. It was so neat and pretty well developed.

Despite all the things I really enjoyed about this book, there were a few things that just seemed a bit off to me. For instance, the fact that Robin was not able to access her inheritance considering her parents were dead and that she upended her whole college path to go into a headlong pursuit for the lost items/will was just mind boggling. Even if there was clause in there that said she couldn't access it until 21, there should have been no way that the uncle had access to the will while she didn't. Will are not often read if not all parties are present. She was sooooo timid. I get it she's shy and timid and it gives lots of room for character building and growth, but she practically was a door mat the whole first half of the book. She tried to be sneaky by getting into the library, but honestly the snooping could have been shorter.
