The Book That Wouldn't Burn by Mark Lawrence
5.0
This was an epic fantasy read.
I loved the characters and became very invested in their lives and stories; the setting was harsh, depressing and foreboding but I loved it; and the action was nonstop. It was very vividly written and detailed.
I especially enjoyed the writing structure. Each chapter starts with a quote from a book, some real but most not. A couple were even twisted into fiction from reality-based factors! The overall story was very compelling. It took a while to understand what was happening and how time works within this fantasy world but not overwhelmingly so. Of course, being the first book of a trilogy series, it ends on a bit of a cliffhanger so I’m very much anticipating the next book.
A perfect 5 star book. I definitely highly recommend reading this.
