Iron Flame
by Rebecca Yarros
after how hyped I was after fourth wing, it hurts me a little to drop a four star rating, but I just can’t bring myself to go all the way in with five.
there was SO much potential within this book, with elements to the story that had me gasping and crying and tearing my hair out. But there was also just so much of it. I don’t say this often for fantasy books, but I really wish Iron Flame had been shorter and a little more slower paced.
now don’t come at me - I bloody love a fast paced, high stakes fantasy with lots of peril, and this certainly delivered. but knowing this is to be a five book series? I guess I wanted more of a slow burn to build the suspense. Usually the faster paced stories are more suited to standalone or duology’s (in my opinion anyway), so I’m a bit apprehensive that Yarros can keep it going for the next three in the series.
that being said, I still adored the book and read over half of it in one sitting. I am also tairn’s number one fan.
