Stolen Tongues by Felix Blackwell

4.0

Fantastic scares and atmosphere. The beginning third of the book is a solid five stars… 3.5 for the rest. This story deserves a developmental edit with a heavy hand to get it tighter, more cohesive. I’ve read since that it’s author adapted it from short stories published on a popular spooky subreddit. And you can feel that. The momentum moves up and down… steam runs out midway and sort of trails from one small peak to another. Almost like it’s meandering. Potential plot threads that are tantalising in opportunity disappear, despite multiple hints. I feel like if it was chopped a bit, reworked in sections it could be a flowing, terrifying, cohesive story. Anyway, despite that this story still scared me shitless and I loved the thought that went into the backstory of the monster and its intentions.
