Tyler Johnson Was Here by Jay Coles

I think it was a mistake to read the synopsis beforehand as it literally revealed the entire plot of the story. The book follows Marvin who tries to find out what happened to his twin bother Tyler after he went to a party and never returned home. However, there is no mystery or shock to the reader when it was revealed what actually happened to Tyler because like I said, the synopsis tells you exactly what the outcome for him will be which gives you time to prepare yourself for what you will eventually read. Also I felt like the romance was not needed at all and was introduced quite randomly and didn’t add anything to the story. I’m glad I read it as it tackles issues such as racism and police brutality, but I think there is other books out there that do a better job at exploring these themes.
