Blood to Dust by L.J. Shen

3.0

If you’ve read an L.J. Shen book before you know she writes some dark romance and Blood to Dust is no exception. In fact, this one is probably the darkest of her books I’ve read. While I enjoyed Blood to Dust it wasn’t my favorite (that would be Dirty Headlines or The Kiss Thief). Blood to Dust is violent, very violent. This book is marketed as a Bonnie and Clyde type story and it really is.

The story was good, I really liked learning about Prescott and Beat and what both had gone through. We learn about their backgrounds in an organic way, which makes sense for the story. They are both damaged and interesting and though they are probably not the most model citizens I really liked them. Prescott was sassy and Beat was stoic. I liked how they evened each other out. And the romance between them was my favorite part.

What I also liked was that this was the story of two people who were basically written off, but found the strength to carry on. This is very much a story about revenge and taking control of your own destiny. I could easily see this as some sort of movie, it probably is actually. While this story is dark it is also one of hope.

This should probably have 100 trigger warnings. I’m not one that gets squeamish about sex or violence, but if you are, this may not be the book for you. Both of those are pretty graphic, let me reiterate that this is a dark romance. But if those things don’t bother you I would recommend this book.
