The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum

5.0

A cute and simple story and a must read for anyone who loves the classic film or the new musical Wicked. I recently re-read Maguire's Wicked as well.

The original tale is pretty straight forward and magical in the same way as Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Don't think about it too hard and let yourself go on this little adventure. For a children's story, it's surprisingly violent! There's a part where the Tin Man chops the heads off of 40 wolves and leaves them all in a pile for Dorothy to see when she wakes up from a night's sleep. The Wizard shamelessly asking a young child to KILL the Wicked Witch of the West (who she's never met and is going on the Wizard's say) is just wild.

I like seeing the differences between all of the mediums, mostly what they've added to the original story to add more depth or horror.
