The Perks of Being a Wallflower
by Stephen Chbosky
Once again, 3.5 stars
Was a good time! for me but not for Charlie that's for sure. Glad it was on the shorter side, and I love a good epistolary style book! I have a bone to pick with all books from kids perspectives though. It really annoys me when books are from kid/teens perspective and the author makes their voice sound so childish but then throw in the deepest sentence ever written, then the kids goes, "but I guess I will figure that out when I'm an adult." or, " but what do I know I'm just a kid.". Oh and the way that the kid talks/ thinks about adult themes such as sex/drugs is also unrealistic. Maybe Charlie was supposed to be on the spectrum? that's the only thing that I could think of that would explain it, or just bad writing. Definitely got on my nerves. Make them kids, or make them adults people! Anyways I liked the supporting characters, and the way we were kept a lil' bit in the dark, just like Charlie was by his own mind. I watched the movie years ago and I definitely didn't remember anything from it, will have to rewatch again! Don't know exactly how to feel about this book, but those were all the thoughts that were on the top of my noggin.
