Wolfpack by Amelia Brunskill

I liked the format and the ending, though it didn’t really shock me. I also thought that this was going to be about something completely different than it was (tbh I thought it was gonna be about werewolves, not a cult).

It’s fine and it stuck with me, I just wasn’t wild about all the POVs I had to follow. I ended up having to write out notes to help myself distinguish which characters were which.

Edit: Okay, the more I think about it, the less I like the ending, and the review is getting into spoiler territory here so avoid if you don’t want that.

I think the title, build up, and description of the book made me want all the girls to leave the cult by the end of it, not just one of them. It’s obvious throughout that the cult members don’t care about them (were not concerned about girls disappearing, didn’t check on them when one of them was screaming in the night, etc) but the cult seems to be going in a downward spiral with their leader suffering from dementia and one of the possible heirs being a serial killer. I was expecting the girls to come together and decide they could gather the life skills they have learned in the cult and just go be on their own in the woods, like, you know, a wolf pack? But that’s not what happened. I get it, but I was a little disappointed in it.
