Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea
by Jules Verne
I was expecting more from this book and I was left underwhelmed. It felt a bit too non-fiction to me at times with all the observations of marine species. Normally I wouldn't mind that, being a marine scientist and all, but there was just too much of it. Plus when I read fiction I don't want to be reading fiction with a lot of non-fiction thrown in. I like my genres separate. There was also a lot of "Oh we have a problem with this rare animal? Well the only logical explanation is to kill it!" Which I guess is a lot of what people of that time thought so I can't say I blame Verne too much to that degree, but even so you would think that the scientists wouldn't be on board with that kind of thinking. Overall, the plot had potential it just was executed as well as I had hoped.
