The MCs broken English and trauma porn life made this feel a bit like a book written for a specific purpose of shocking/inspiring people. Even Tia fell into this trap - perhaps you could say she as the character represented the audience. The end was also tied into a neat little bow to let things end well and without letting us, the audience, feel worry or guilt. I would have preferred to see something written with the complexity of Nervous Conditions or the other rich Nigerian history of literature covering the themes of child abuse/trafficking, child marriage, inequality and rape as well as the hope that is sort of shoved down your throat.
