Midnight Sun by Stephenie Meyer
5.0

The audiobook narrated by Jake Abel was superb!! His voice is exactly as I would imagine Edward’s to be and the other characters were voiced respectably. I actually found myself reluctant to read the book without the audiobook playing, which is not normal for me. I will usually easily switch from one to the other if the library has both available. But his narration was really wonderful and I didn’t want to miss a sentence!

Now for the book. It was good. Satisfying as a retelling can be I think. But. Edward’s head is a tense and over-thought place to be. It could get a little too tense to keep reading and at times, I just needed a break from the intensity. I found myself missing Jacob’s light hearted relief often. It was very interesting to read about events and thoughts that weren’t included in the first Twilight book. I especially like the descriptions about Alice’s cover-up of Bella’s accident and her covering all their tracks. Also, the car chase scenes were pretty amazing.

It was a little mundane to read through the scenes I was already very familiar with from the original book, but there were always slight tweaks due to the p.o.v. change. So it was never boring for long.

Overall, enjoyable and satisfying that I didn’t have to end this series with Breaking Dawn. Always nice to drag out your favorite world and characters a little longer.
