A Court of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J. Maas

adventurous slow-paced

2.5

let me start with what i liked: i think the pace of this book was actually decent compared to the other two! and we started so strong like the first 20%? i loved it, i was so into it! i loved seeing feyre being infiltrated in the spring court and i wish that we had gotten more of that.

after this, it got extremely boring

the political aspect of these books was just so poorly done, you can tell sjm just shoved everything into this book.

also, i know they're at war but there was never a point where i actually thought anyone was dying (and spoiler alert: no one did). i just couldn't find myself to care for these "big injuries" everyone had when they would show up fine the next morning like nothing happened.

there were WAY too many characters with too little relevance. like omg why is there so many characters in this story? i can't name all of these people. even the core characters were too much: name every single person of feysand's "family"? i can't. it was so overwhelming at times. i will say i think it's "hilarious" that their dad died (like were we supposed to care about him?) but we didn't even get to know his name. genuinely though, i think that this is why i had trouble connecting with anyone in this series, there was just too many people.

final thoughts: i understand why people love this series so much. i do. it's just not for me. sjm is not a writer for me. this series had so much potential, and if anyone else wrote it, it could see this be a favorite of mine.
