Spuk in Hill House
by Shirley Jackson
I had high hopes, especially since Stephen King called it one of the truly scary novels.
It was indeed well written and easy to follow with interesting characters. But I was expecting more tension out of it, there were some times which could be described as eery but all in all it was more a novel for me than a scary story.
Perhaps I'm not familiar enough with the way storytelling was back in the times of Miss Jackson or what was considered spooky in that era.
I enjoyed reading it but my expectations weren't met.
