Animal Farm by George Orwell

5.0

This took me a long time to read. I had to take many breaks. It showed me how history is repeating itself right in front of our eyes. How “oh that isn’t what that used to say” is being used yet again. How propaganda is used. How dictators come to be. This is a very hard read for Americans with common sense and an inability to be gaslit and there is a LOT of gaslighting in this book.

It is a book I wish I had been made to read in school so I could understand the nuances and Russian history that went along with it. I’m almost too scared to look into it myself for fear of finding what Americas future will hold. Orwell is being called upon over and over as 1984 seems to be the favorite due to government issues but I think this one is even more accurate.

As just a story, it is beautiful. When taken as a fable as originally intended the themes are poignant and easy to understand. The ending is immaculate and I think this should be required reading for every 10-11th grader. I think senior year is a year too late. I think teens should be able to choose classes to better understand civics and government and economy if they want to understand the implications of this book more. I like to think I would’ve fought to stay in government instead of letting them take me out when they realized my credits to graduate were all screwed up. This book is very important and I’m so glad I read it.
