To Kill a Kingdom by Alexandra Christo

3.0

I’m giving this book 3.5 stars, which admittedly disappointed me after reading the glowing reviews. The beginning was engaging, the ending was excellent...but the middle was difficult to engage with for some reason. I was so excited to fall in love with Lira and Elian but the middle of the story seemed stiff and choppy like the seas they were sailing on. It almost seemed like a D&D game with characters you love to adventure with who are just having an off day.

With such a rich opening and climactic ending, I just wish the rest of the book would have been as good.
