Hyperbole and a Half by Allie Brosh

4.0

What a writer! Such an engaging writing style and voice. I wish I coulda given it 5 stars … But by the second half, the author’s self-loathing was getting uncomfortable. I mean, I’m all for a dose of self-deprecating humour, but it felt like more than good-natured ribbing turned inward. It felt like outta control emotional self-harm in extreme close-up. The tragedy of it kinda made my stomach churn.
I really want to read her more recent book, and likely will. She’s observant and insightful and original and FUNNY! Oh, and her illustrations are BANG ON. But I do hope The Real Her actually likes herself a more than her stories suggest.
