She Rides Shotgun by Jordan Harper
3.0
With all the build-up I had heard about this one, I must admit, I was a little disappointed. First of all, because it won a Mystery Award, I was expecting a mystery. That is probably on me, though, because the description didn’t sound like a mystery, so I should have realized that going in. I did enjoy the book, just not as much as anticipated. Most reviews I’ve read have loved this book. I think it’s because I struggled with a youngster being placed in so much danger. It was nice that her criminal father wanted to protect her at all costs, and they were able to form a bond even under such terrible circumstances. Polly was quite a remarkable girl with a lot of gumption, wanting to protect her father. The characters are well-drawn and likable despite the situation. You’ll fall in love with the teddy bear who is a character on his own. If you are looking for a non-stop caper, crime-spree sort of action book with a heartfelt side, this one may be for you.
