Apollo 13 by Jeffrey Kluger, James Lovell
4.0

This has been a re-read for me.

Even though that I've seen the movie ages before (and now I really want to re-watch it again) and have read this book before and basically know what happened then - I still got sucked into reading this "story" like woha. I guess, it just hits a button of mine when I read about people being in dangerous situations and trying to get out of them on their own/with help that is far away and have to rely on their wits, skills, knowledge and a bit of luck in order to get out there (Hello, The Martian.).

I really appreciate the little tibbits about Gemini, Mercury and Apollo 1 and how NASA came to be. I like that the various stations (CAPCOM, EECOM and so on) have been explained and what they do during a flight. There are so many details about the Apollo missions and the flight of Apollo 13 and the space program of that time in general. :)

The writing style with the change of POVs without it being a new chapter is something I'm not quite fond of and made me grumble from time to time while reading. I enjoy having not just one POV and getting to know what other people besides the crew did during these days but please just don't change the POV without a clear indication.

There are also some spelling and plain mistakes in the book. In general, I don't mention/mind them but in some cases they caused a lot of confusion for me because it didn't make sense what has been happening due to these mistakes (Like, they are letting CO2 into the capsule? Seriously? It should have been O2 like the next sentence confirmed.). I don't know if these mistakes are due to the translation or not.

All in all, I've enjoyed reading this book a lot.
