44 Scotland Street by Alexander McCall Smith
3.0

I think that sometimes it's okay to close a book, and for the only thought in your mind about it to be "that was fun". That was my thought when I finished this book. The characters were quirky, the situations were amusing, and there was a certain storyline to each of the characters' predicaments. Admittedly there were a lot of loose ends that weren't tied, but I guess taht's why this became a series.

I've personally been to Edinburgh but there was something about this book that made it feel like it could've happened anywhere. Take the story of Irene and Bertie, for example. I can see an overbearing mother pushing her son into being a prdigy right here in the United States. Confusion over the artist of an intriguing painting, the struggles of a love triangle... They all felt like episodes in a situation comedy, to tell the truth.

It was an easy, relaxing read. And though I will be happy to return to this series in the future, I'm not especially anxious for the next installment.
