While I found Teresa's life interesting and enjoyed learning how she became the Queen of the South, I did not enjoy the overall execution. There was a lot of fluff put into this book that I did not care much for. I think I would've enjoyed this much more if it were written in first person. The text was extremely dense, and some of the language has not translated well into present times.

I did like Teresa and her resilience working with misogynistic men who believe they are powerful. She handled them with grace. That was my favorite part about this book. Teresa kept her loyalty and did not change just because she became wealthy. She was wholesome and fair for the most part. I respect that about her character.
