Lucia is forced to sign a contract saying she's the spoils of war when she is 16, meaning when she turns 21 Salvatore gets to claim her as his property. Neither party is happy about this, her for obvious reasons, him because he has no desire to own a person, but his father is the head of the family and what he says goes.
They meet again 5 years later at her fathers funeral, she spends pretty much the entire story in some level of angst because she should hate him but she trusts him and sex just makes her emotions more muddled because she shouldn't like it but good lord does she want it.
Salvatore on the other hand feels lucky and uncomfortable at the same time, he's happy she's finally his, but the contract really messes with him, well both of them really.
The characters were all interesting and the story was just twisty enough and the smut was great. So glad I didn't hate this because I already own the whole series.
