The World Is A Dark And Lovely Place: A Collection of Poetry by Carol Chu
5.0
the world is a dark and lovely place is a compilation of poetry on love, loss, family, friendships and all that we have come to know in this place we call “life”.
this profound collection of poetry reminisce on the beauty and sorrows of all that defines the mundane. carol chu mei yin’s voice demands to be heard and the powerful imagery through her writing will struck a sense of melancholic nostalgia through the hearts of many readers as it did mine.
plenty there were of brilliantly charming masterpieces in this collection that spoke to my very soul. i cannot even begin to express the warmth and comfort it brings me to read my utmost inner feelings expressed in words i could never muster up the courage to utter.
my heart ached and bloomed as i turned pages after pages. some of the poetry felt like a mirror into a life i had once lived and the nostalgia of its reminiscence bears an overwhelming feeling i seldom to define.
this collection is timeless. albeit it’s been quite a while since its publication. however, i feel as if this collection span to generations. readers be it old and young can find themselves within the poetry written and be reminded of a life we have once lived, a love we have once gained and once lost and a future to seek and to dream.
it was quite shocking to find how underrated this collection are that i implore you to give this a go. i was kindly gifted a copy from my best friend dayana who received it from the poet herself and i’m grateful to have been able to experience the force of carol’s writing at least once in my life thus so should you.
having read a few collection by local poets before to which i adore some with my whole entire being and some i chose not to even get myself involved in its discourse, the world is a dark and lovely place has made itself a place in my favourite local poetry hall of fame (it’s not a thing but let’s pretend it is) and 5 whole stars is what it deserves.
